Have you ever wondered what life was like in early American Appalachia? Where did the folklore come from? For much of its history the farm was owned and operated by a local Anthropology Professor. Read manuscripts written by local families and transport yourself to early 1900, or a ghost story written for the farm as they are among the gems in the farmhouse's 100 yr library. Explore historic cemeteries along historic trails. Experience life 'unplugged'. Have one of the best night's sleep you've ever had.
Try New Flavors
Appalachia is as rich in flavors as it is in history. Try a cushaw or a paw-paw, dandelion jelly or sassafras tea. Forage for seasonal mushrooms, wild herbs and berries. Harvest farm fresh ingredients grown from heirloom seeds. Add hand crafted syrups, vinegars, sauces and extracts you've learned to make. Have with wild game or grass fed domestic meat. Top it off with an herbal 'mocktail' and all without visiting a grocery store. Then take home everything you need to recreate your meal.
"A museum you can stay in"
Make memories that will last as long as these hills
Come explore the history of this family farm and the culture of Appalachia deep in the hollers of beautiful Eastern KY. Read folklore, hunt for arrow heads, learn syrup making and homesteading techniques, hike for miles along the mountainside picking baskets of berries, play with baby goats, relax on one of the 3 porches with the farm's own ghost story book, soak your feet in the creek, and at the end of the day sit by the campfire roasting the marshmallows you made.
Your visit and contribution goes directly to preserving the farm and surrounding mountainsides for the next generation. Our farm's focus is cultivation, reclamation, permaculture, and preservation. Activities are “hands-on” and participatory, regardless of experience or skill level.
Bring your family, friends, foodies, history buffs, gardening enthusiasts, foraging companions, camping buddies, equestrian associations, art teachers, church groups, quilting bees, photography clubs, and nature lovers for an unforgettable 'unplugged' experience.
